Yorktown Dem Announces Candidacy for Assembly Race

Brendan J. Tully becomes first Democrat to run for vacant 99th Assembly District seat.

Brendan Tully, of Yorktown Heights, announced yesterday he would be the first Democrat to put his name into the race for the open seat of the New York State 99th Assembly District, a seat currently held by Greg Ball, D-Patterson.

A crowd filled with family, friends, and other supporters came together at the Jack Devito Memorial Field on Veterans Road, off of Commerce Street. The event was held promptly at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Alice Roker, the Town Clerk of Yorktown, gave the introduction speech and recalled how she met Brendan when he was only about ten years old. She said a couple of months ago she encouraged Tully to run for the open Assembly seat.

Throughout his speech, Tully expressed his concern over the current state of the New York State government.

"We have an old broken machine in Albany, and we can't just replace the parts with more of the same," Tully said in his speech. "We need a whole new way of doing things. We need to open up the windows and let some fresh air in to Albany."

Pending other Democratic nods into the race, he will be looking to challenge the winner of the Republican primary between Republican nominee, James Borkowski, and Tea Party candidate, Steve Katz, who is also from Yorktown.

"The skills that I learned here in Yorktown, fighting when we have to but work to try and get a solution when we can, are the same skills I will use in Albany," remarked Tully as the crowd reacted in applause.

Tully was born and raised in Yorktown Heights and graduated from Fordham University and Albany Law School. He currently works in New York City as an attorney with Levy Phillips & Konigsberg, LLP, where his cases involve asbestos exposure for Veterans and workers. He remains active in town as a member of the Yorktown Lions Club and a founding member of the Yorktown Energy Advisory Committee.

After announcing his candidacy, those in attendance headed over to the VFW Post 8328 across the street for some refreshments and an opportunity to share a discussion with Tully.

"Brendan and I have had some wonderful conversations about his affiliation with the Democratic Party and his plans and his vision for his community and the state itself," said Bill Stoiber, after watching the speech. "I'm even more impressed with what I've heard him say today".
