Yorktown Grange Fair -- Focus on Livestock
Exhibits, competitions, and demonstrations
There are so many reasons why the Yorktown Grange Fair is unique to Westchester County, but perhaps the most obvious and popular features are the livestock exhibits and demonstrations. Horses, cows, oxen, goats, sheep, pigs – the Grange Fair has them all, up close and personal – living reminders of Yorktown’s agricultural heritage.
And, following the venerable tradition of the Grange Fair (now in its 91st year), most of the animals are competing for blue ribbons in showmanship, and many will participate in special demonstrations in the horse ring throughout the fair.
Following is the current schedule of special events in the livestock area:

SATURDAY, 9/12:

10:30am – Horseback Riding demonstration

12:30pm – Belgian Draft Horse Pulling demonstration

1:30pm – Horseback Riding competition

5:00pm – Oxen Pulling and Driving demonstrations

SUNDAY, 9/13:
11:00am – Cow Showmanship competition
1:00pm – Horse Drill Team
Manitou Farm Red Horse Troupe, (Garrison)
2:00pm – Goat Showmanship competition (upper ring)
2:00pm – Horse Showmanship competition (horse ring)
3:30pm – Livestock Animal Parade
The livestock area also offers audience participation. Fairgoers should make a point of seeing the Hanover Spinners as they demonstrate how to spin wool, all day Saturday and Sunday in the Livestock Tent. Or give it a try yourself – they’ll sit you down and show you how.
Try your hand at milking a cow on the “milking simulator”, and enter the Rubber Chicken Throwing Contest on Sunday at 11:00am – maybe you’ll go home with your own blue ribbon!
