Yorktown Lions Need Turkeys

The Yorktown Lions have been soliciting supermarket donations for its annual “Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.” The Lions now need to supplement that number (about 20) with turkey donations from local residents. The Lions’ goal is to surpass last year’s total of 77 turkeys. However, they need the public’s help to achieve that goal.

A few local supermarkets are providing free turkeys to those shoppers who spent over $300: Acme is $300; Shop Rite is $400. The Lions would like you to consider donating those free turkeys (or others) to our annual drive. The Lions are also accepting hams and turkey breasts.

To make the collection easy, the Lions have arranged two turkey drop off days. The first will be on Sunday, November 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Lakeland Administration Building in Shrub Oak. Look for the Lions cooking hot dogs for the Veterans’ Day parade participants. The second turkey drop off day is Thursday, November 17 from 10:00 to 1:00 at the Jack Devito Veterans’ Memorial Field Gazebo on Veterans’ Road. Please go to the Lions’ website: www.yorktownlions.com to register your donation. All donors will receive a donation acknowledgement that may be used for tax purposes.

The Yorktown Lions will deliver the turkeys to the Mildred Strang Middle School and to St. Mary’s Church on Route 6. Teams of volunteers will then organize turkey baskets – with all the trimmings. The turkey baskets will then be distributed to local families. If you are not able to donate a turkey, ham, or turkey breast, you may make a monetary donation at the Yorktown Lions website – www.yorktownlions.com
