Yorktown Lions Support All Veterans

Yorktown Lions hold Clothing Drive for Veterans

Do you know the significance of November 11? It's the official day for honoring all veterans. The date of November 11 can be traced to the end of World War I, which occurred during the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of November. The Yorktown Lions don't forget our veterans.

The Yorktown Lions normally spend about $1200 annually during the Thanksgiving season on clothing that is donated to the Montrose VA. Ellie Schaffer, the Veterans volunteer specialist, then organizes the clothing so that veterans may purchase this merchandise at a nominal amount.

This year the Lions are asking the community to help them by donating new clothing for the veterans. The list includes boxer shorts, colored tee shirts, gym shorts, hoodies, sweatshirts sweet pants, sneakers (sizes 9-13), men's winter coats, winter hats, scarfs, gloves, and socks. The clothing sizes needed range from medium to extra extra large. Help the Lions by purchasing some of this clothing. What the community doesn't donate, the Lions will complement through a huge purchase at the Yorktown BJ's.

The new clothing can be brought to two drop off sites on two different dates: November 8, from 1 to 3 at the Veterans' Parade and memorial service in Shrub Oak (between the Lakeland Administration Building and the John C. Hart Library. The second drop off date and location will be during the annual Lions 'Halloween Carnival" where a table will be accepting veterans' clothing and also donations for the turkey drive.
