Yorktown Man Accused Of Assault, Breaking Cellphone
A judge issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the person police said was assaulted
YORKTOWN, NY — A Yorktown man was accused of punching another person at a convenience store and breaking a cellphone. Police said Quameik S. Byrd, 24, of Yorktown, was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
Police said they received a call around 3:30 p.m. April 7 about a fight at the 7-Eleven at 1949 Commerce St.
Officers who responded to the scene said Byrd struck the victim with a closed fist, causing pain, bruising and swelling.

Additionally, police said Byrd broke the person's cellphone, which was worth about $1,000, by throwing it to the ground.
Byrd was found by police about a half hour later while walking on Crompond Road and was arrested.

He was arraigned in the Yorktown Justice Court and a temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
Byrd could not post $1,500 bail or $3,500 bond and was sent to the Westchester County Department of Correction.
He is next scheduled to appear in court April 11.
