Yorktown Man Arrested After Turning In Illegal Assault Rifle: Police

He was required to turn over weapons because of a stipulation of an order of protection after a domestic dispute.

YORKTOWN, NY — The Yorktown Police Department says that they arrested a 38-year-old Yorktown resident and charged him with felony third degree criminal possession of a weapon.

On August 20, around 6:21 p.m., Yorktown police officers responded to a report of a domestic incident. After an investigation, Hanee Margiye was arrested for third degree assault. A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim and served to Margiye, with one of the stipulations being for him to surrender all of his firearms.

On August 21, Margiye surrendered four firearms to the Yorktown Police Department, one of which police allege is an illegal assault rifle.

On October 22, around 3:04 p.m., Margiye surrendered himself at the Yorktown Police Department, and was arrested.

After processing, he was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. Margiye is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on November 12.
