Yorktown Man Arrested for DWI After Trying to Run Away from Police

He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

SOMERS, NY — A Yorktown man was arrested for drunk driving in the Town of Somers after he tried to get away from the police.

State Police said Oscar Duarte, 28, was pulled over for an equipment violation and was found to be intoxicated.

While troopers were administering standardized field sobriety tests, police said Duarte ran off into the woods.

After a brief foot pursuit, he was placed into custody.

His breath sample yielded a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent.

Duarte was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

He was issued traffic tickets to return to the Town of Somers Court Jan. 9.
