Yorktown Man Chosen Class Representative of Police Academy Graduates

There were 226 new graduates of the academy.

YORKTOWN, NY — New York State Police recently graduated 226 new members from the 204th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy.

A Yorktown Heights man—Trooper Avery Katz, 34—was chosen class representative and was awarded a firearm by the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association in memory of Trooper John J. McKenna IV, who was killed in action in 2006 while serving as a Marine in Iraq.

Katz previously graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

He is currently an executive officer in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.

Katz will be assigned to Troop F in Middletown.
