Yorktown Teen Center Receives Grant for Art Festival; Students Submit More than 100 Entries
Throughout the month of May, people are invited to attend and view teen displays and performances at various venues.
The is leading the month-long “” in May, which will feature the creativity and talents of youth in the areas of film, music, photography, poetry and fine arts. More than 100 entries have been received so far and will be on display in May throughout Yorktown.
Check out some of the entires the Yorktown Teen Center received from Gerassimos Patrikios, Ariana Aboulafia, Caroline Foster, Rob Loftus, Lynnea Bolin and Henry Myer.
Students in grades 6th through 12th had a chance to submit an entry for the event, without a limit to the number of entries.

In addition, the Yorktown Teen Center has received a grant for $3,200 from Entergy to cover the costs for the 2011 Next Gen Arts Festival.
“This grant will enhance what we already have planned by providing us funds to offset our costs” said Helena Rodriguez, president of board of directors of the Yorktown Teen Center.

“We saw how successful our First Fridays Open Mic was for the musicians and wanted to include other expressive arts for creatively talented teens,” she said.
Music venues include , the , the Teen Center and the Jack DeVito Gazebo. Various short film screenings are scheduled throughout the month. Art and photography will be featured at the Fieldhome and the John C. Hart Memorial Library. A kickoff reception for the art display at the library is scheduled for May 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
will be hosting the 2011 Next Gen Arts Short Film Screening on Friday, May 13. A variety of films have been submitted including satire, comedy, documentary, montages and other genres. The screening will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
Community Day will feature Next Gen musicians on May 14 starting at noon on the Mildred E. Strang Campus. On May 15, the Fieldhome will be host to Next Gen performers at 2:30 p.m. in the Fieldhome Dinning Room. On May 20, the Next Gen Festival will conclude with Battle of the Bands being organized by Yorktown Parks and Recreation.
