Yorktown's Hart Library To Offer Free Tax Prep Services
Certified volunteers from AARP will prepare the forms, with a preference toward helping senior citizens.
YORKTOWN, NY — It's tax season, and to that end, the John C. Hart Memorial Library is offering help preparing the forms.
Beginning Feb. 7, certified volunteers from AARP will provide free tax-preparation services — with a preference for senior citizens — on Mondays from Feb. 7 to April 11. The hours will be between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Tax-prep sessions are by appointment only; no walk-ins will be accepted.

As was offered last year, if patrons are able to scan their documents at home and email them to the volunteers, then no visit is required.
However, according to library officials, this season volunteers can also prepare tax returns offsite if patrons come into the library one time for scanning their documents and then return a week or two later to complete the process, picking up a copy of the finished return.

Same-day service is also possible as long as patrons meet with the volunteers in the morning for an intake interview. They can then leave their paperwork with the volunteers for a few hours and return later in the day to finish the process.
The library also has federal tax forms and instruction books available. Library staff will print supplemental forms for anyone who wants to do their own taxes, officials said.
