ZBA to vote on sober house in July

A majority of the ZBA appears ready to rule that the sober house meets the town's definition of a convalescent home and can proceed with its application for a special permit from the Town Board.

After more than an hour of discussion, a consensus appeared to emerge with at lest three board members agreeing that Compass Westchester, the proposed sober house on Underhill Avenue, is a convalescent home according the definition in the zoning code and therefore can apply for a special permit.

The board is expected to vote on the issue at its July 24 meeting.

'The board expects to vote at its July meeting to grant the special permit to allow the company to park its garbage trucks on Richard Place (off Front St) and leave it up to the DEP and/or the DEC to enforce their regulations which will require the company to obtain other permits.
