Asheville Retirement Community Determined to Help Those in Need
Residents & staff at Givens Estates are making a difference, one mask at a time.

The coronavirus has people from coast to coast hunkering down inside their homes, providing them with an abundance of free time. Residents at Givens Estates retirement community in Asheville are spending some of their time giving back.
Residents and staff at Givens Estates are making face covers and headbands for their health and wellness staff at the community. So far, they’ve donated 75 pieces. With eight residents, a group of nurses and a total of 42 volunteer hours completed, the group is determined to meet their set goal of at least 200 donations. The group said that as long as people need these items, they’ll make them.
Givens Estates was sparked with inspiration when they witnessed the entire nation coming together in such a difficult and uncertain time. They saw other senior living communities giving back by making masks, and they wanted to do the same. Some residents are even taking the initiative to make masks for fellow residents who don’t have one.

Givens Estates understands the importance of volunteering, especially right now. In fact, research confirms volunteering leads to better health and that older adults are the most likely individuals to receive physical, mental and spiritual health benefits from volunteer activities.
During times like these, it truly takes a village, and this group is a perfect example that we can overcome when we come together.
