2 CMPD Officers Struck By 'Irrational' Driver At Barricade

The driver struck the two officers as he drove through a barricade during the early morning incident near the Park Expo Center.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Two Charlotte police officers avoided major injuries after they were struck by a motorist who drove through a barricade before dawn near the Park Expo Center, according to reports.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. in the 800 block of Briar Creek Road, when officers were pursuing a driver in a white Mercedes sedan, WJZY reported.

The driver stopped the vehicle when he approached a barricade manned by an off-duty ABC officer, but was "acting very irrational," police told the station.

"CMPD officers arrived at the scene to assist and as they attempted to detain the driver - he drove off striking at least two officers with his vehicle," WJZY said.

The driver, who has not yet been identified by authorities, was later taken into custody in the 13000 block of Morehead Street.
