The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.
Welcome back, Charlotte. I'm here in your inbox today to get you caught up on everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Hope you all have a great day. Let's do it.
First, today's weather:
Heavy afternoon thunderstorms. High: 84 Low: 67.
Here are the top five stories in Charlotte today:
- Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is a new, 24/7 emergency veterinarian hospital that will open on September 14 in SouthPark. According to WCNC, "VEG is a New York-based veterinary hospital with 32 locations across 11 states. Local vet and VEG medical director, Ashley Gray, brought the brand to Charlotte. Hospitals and clinics around the country have been turning animals away because they're short staffed, as the Atlantic recently reported." (WBTV)
- Recently, several community groups hosted back-to-school events throughout the Charlotte area to help parents prepare their children for school. According to WCNC, "Cars rolled into the 8th annual Back-To-School Community Health Fair. It's a one-stop shop for families to get the essentials they need for a successful school year. Vendors took over the YMCA parking lot offering everything from free school supplies to COVID-19 vaccinations and testing."(WCNC.com)
- As of Saturday, a North Carolina Silver Alert has been issued for a missing man out of Charlotte. According to Fox 46 Charlotte, "76-year-old Charles Anderson was last seen on Friday at his family's home near 5800 Ryder Ave. in south Charlotte. He was last seen driving his 2017 Dodge Caravan with Florida license plate JBV-B67." (Fox 46 Charlotte)
- During the pandemic thieves started stealing bicycles like never before. According to Spectrum News, "Stacy Lonshore and her 15-year-old son usually go cycling several times a week...Her son uses his bike to travel places. But his mode of transportation was stolen from him in December. It happened at the Tyvola Light Rail Station. Longshore said her son locked his bike up on a railing. When he returned, the lock was cut, and all that was left was his helmet. Longshore says the toughest part was his mountain bike costs $2,500 new." (Spectrum News)
- According to WBTV, "Charlotte passengers were stranded for days in the Dominican Republic after their American Airlines flight was canceled multiple times. AA782 from Punta Cana was supposed to be back to the Queen City on 4 p.m. on Aug. 7. Instead, that flight was changed to AA9603 and arrived on Aug. 9." (WBTV)
