24K Drivers Ticketed In NC Thanksgiving Crackdown

Law Enforcement was out in full force over the Thanksgiving holiday. You won't believe how many tickets they issued.

The Thanksgiving holiday is behind us but for some North Carolina drivers, the pains of holiday travel might still linger thanks to a statewide crackdown on traffic violations over the busiest travel holiday of the year.

According to AAA, 2.1 million drivers from the Carolinas will travel more than 50 miles over the holiday weekend, up more than three percent over the same travel period last year.

North Carolina’s State Highway Patrol was out in full force over the holiday weekend, stationing troopers every 20 miles along Interstate 40 during heavy travel periods on Wednesday, Nov. 22, and again on Sunday, Nov. 26. The operation was part of the "I-40 Thanksgiving Challenge" that occurred simultaneously in seven other states aimed at pushing a zero fatality rate along the more than 2,500-mile-long interstate.
