3 Teens Lead Police On Chase After Armed Robbery, Carjacking

After leading police on a chase, the three teenage suspects were found with BB and paintball guns.

CHARLOTTE, NC —Three teenagers wanted for armed robbery and carjacking were apprehended Thursday night after leading police on a chase that ended in Uptown when they jumped out of the stolen car and ran from officers on foot.

According to a police account of the incident, the suspects were identified as Tyshan Springs, 16, as well as two juvenile males, who are 14- and 15-years-old.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department received a call reporting the initial armed robbery and vehicle theft in the 8500 block of Stoneface Road in west Charlotte shortly before 8:30 p.m. The victim told officers three suspects took his vehicle after he was struck in the head.

Officers located the vehicle in the area based on its description and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but when the driver refused to stop, “a pursuit ensued,” CMPD said.

At the intersection of 4th Street and Cedar Street, the three suspects stopped the car and fled on foot. Officers from several divisions, including K-9 units, were dispatched in the search for the suspects, who were all located and taken into custody “without incident,” police said.

According to police, the weapons the teenagers used were BB and paintball guns, which were recovered during the incident.

Springs was charged with common law robbery; assault with a deadly weapon; larceny of a motor vehicle; felony conspiracy; resisting arrest and felony flee and elude.

The 14-year-old juvenile was charged with common law robbery, resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon and felony conspiracy.

The 15-year-old juvenile was charged with felony conspiracy and resisting arrest.
