71-Year-Old Woman Shot, Killed In North Charlotte Home
A couple was shot in their north Charlotte home Wednesday evening. Santa Rodena Acevedo, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have launched a murder investigation after a 71-year-old woman was found dead and her husband left in critical condition after they were both shot in their north Charlotte home Wednesday evening.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the home in the 1900 block of Newland Road in north Charlotte around 7:15 p.m., and found the man and woman with gunshot wounds.
The female victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was identified by police as Santa Rodena Acevedo, 71.

The male victim — her husband — was taken to an area hospital for treatment for serious injuries, WSOC reported. Detectives on the scene said the motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear, the station said.
“There are a lot of family and friends out here who are looking for answers to those questions, and we believe there are people somewhere who could’ve been on the scene -- on the street or in the area -- who may know exactly what happened,” CMPD Maj. Gerald Smith said.

CMPD said the homicide investigation remains ongoing and asks anyone with information about the incident call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
