In-Air Emergency Sends Caribbean-Bound Flight Back To Charlotte
An American Airlines flight headed to Punta Cana left Charlotte Wednesday, but had to turn around and come back. Here's why.
CHARLOTTE, NC -- An American Airlines flight headed to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic Wednesday morning had to turn around and return to Charlotte Douglas International Airport after a strange odor was detected on board the aircraft, according to reports.
American’s Flight 1965 left the airport shortly before 11:30 a.m. and was in the air about 45 minutes when the decision was made to return the aircraft carrying 183 passengers and 10 crew members to Charlotte, WSOC reported.
According to FlightAware, the aircraft made the U-turn over the Georgia coast and landed in Charlotte at 1:02 p.m.

Upon landing, a flight attendant was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, WBTV reported.
