‘Ales And Tails’ Event To Raise Money For Rescue Dogs Vet Bills
Proceeds from the event at Lucky Dog Bark and Brew in Cornelius will help pay vet bills of rescue dogs. Here's how you can help.
CORNELIUS, NC — Animal lovers searching for a rescue dog to give a forever home and those who just want to help them will soon have an opportunity in Cornelius. Lucky Dog Bark and Brew in Cornelius is hosting an “Ales and Tails” fundraiser July 20.
The event is a fundraiser to help pay for vet bills incurred by Happy Tails Rescue, Inc., a Catawba County nonprofit that saves heartworm positive dogs from local animal shelters.
Vet bills can be staggering for animal rescue organizations. Happy Tails, for example, recently took in two heartworm positive dogs from a local shelter and expects to take in another two soon.

Left untreated, heartworms are fatal for pets.
”Unfortunately, the cost of treatment is high and many shelters are not able to provide it for dogs in their care,” the organization said in a statement. “This shifts the burden to local rescues that are willing to take heartworm positive dogs, such as Happy Tails.”
On average, treatment runs between $600 - $800 per dog, in addition to any other vet services they may need, the organization told Patch.

“While fostering is volunteer based, Happy Tails supplies all food, treats, and accessories to the foster. Once treatment is complete the dogs are available for adoption,” the organization said. “The fee to adopt remains $300, which is the flat fee for all dogs in Happy Tails care, despite the high cost of treatment.”
The Ales and Tails event runs 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at Lucky Dog Bark and Brew, located at 19607 Statesville Road in Cornelius. Events include:
- Silent auction
- Hot dogs
- Popcorn
- Items for sale, live music
- And, of course, puppies
