All Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Closed Friday Following Storm
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are closed for the day Friday after a massive line of storms left thousands without power in the area.
CHARLOTTE, NC — All Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are closed Friday, Feb. 7, according to school officials citing widespread power outages and ongoing weather related concerns following a day of strong storms moving through the area.
Friday morning, more than 127,000 North Carolina residents were without power, according to PoweerOutage.US. In Charlotte, at least 20,000 power outages were reported in the city alone, according to the Duke Energy power outage map shortly after 8 a.m.
The lack of power was just one consideration in calling off school, CMS said.
