All Teachers In Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools To Get Raises
At a special meeting Friday morning, school board members approved the step increase raises, which will be retroactive to July 1.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Teachers and staff at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will soon see more money in their paychecks after the school board approved raises in a special meeting Friday morning.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education also approved the addition of 72 new positions to support social and emotional health of students throughout the CMS district.
The raises will be in the form of step increases set by state salary schedules, as well as a boost in teachers’ local supplement pay, the board said. Other employees will get a 3 percent raise and hourly workers, such as teacher assistants and cafeteria workers, will see a raise as well by receiving $13.22 an hour.

The raises will be retroactive to the beginning of the school district’s fiscal year, which began July 1.
“We have waited to do this because we were hoping to have a state budget,” Mary McCray, Board chair, said in a Nov. 15 statement. “We care about our employees and our students, and we are committed to doing what’s best for them despite uncertainty in Raleigh. We’d prefer to have a state budget rather than taking these actions piecemeal but lacking that, we decided to do something now.”
