Amber Alert Canceled After Baby Found Safe, Father Arrested

The baby was abducted two days ago has been located safe in Randleman, N.C., authorities said Tuesday afternoon.

An Amber Alert issued for a kidnapped 7-month-old girl was cancelled Tuesday afternoon after the baby was found safe in Randleman, North Carolina, according to authorities. Her father, a registered sex offender who abducted her at knifepoint after assaulting her mother at a Danville, Virginia gas station Sunday night, has been arrested.

Virginia State Police initiated the two-state search for Carl Ray Kennedy, 51, and the baby Monday, saying that the infant was believed to be "in extreme danger.”

Police later confirmed that the baby was Kennedy's child.

“Danville Police, FBI, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Secret Service arrested Kennedy in Randleman, N.C. He is in custody in North Carolina,” the Danville Police Department said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “Emma Grace Kennedy appears to be in good health and is being evaluated at a local hospital.”

According to an Amber Alert notice from Virginia, Carl Kennedy was seen driving a Gold Suzuki that has a Johnny's Auto Sales emblem on the trunk. By Monday evening, reports emerged that the suspect was possibly seen near Seven Springs, North Carolina around 6:30 p.m. June 4 and may possibly be headed toward Oak Island, North Carolina, the Virginia State Police.
