CHARLOTTE, NC — The search for a man wanted for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend and abduction of his children continued Tuesday afternoon after three of his children were found to be safe and unharmed.
Overnight, Charlotte police issued an Amber Alert for Dior Muhammad, 3, and Aziyah Sana’a Garner, 1, who were both believed to be abducted by their father, Edward Silk Garner Sr., 35.
Garner is also accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Aiesha Shantel Summers, who was 24 weeks pregnant, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Tuesday afternoon. Summers was found shot in an apartment in the 14200 block of Perugia Way in Charlotte around 4:30 p.m. Aug. 12 in what police said was a “domestic related” incident. At the time of the abduction, Garner was accompanied by his son, Edward Silk Garner, Jr., 18, although his role in the incident was unclear, authorities said Tuesday morning. The pair were traveling in a white 2000 Mercedes Benz S340 with NC tag HCV-1629, which was later located in the 5800 block of Nations Ford Road.
Shortly after 3 a.m. Aug. 13, police said Aziyah Sana’a Gardner had been located and was safe, and by 11 a.m., three-year-old Muhammad had also been located safe — both with relatives. Edward Silk Garner, Jr., was also listed as safe and unharmed after the teen voluntarily went to CMPD headquarters after seeing his photo in media reports.
