Make Your Dream Retirement a Reality at Windsor Run

At Windsor Run, Thecla Creech enjoys an active, social lifestyle, fostering meaningful connections with friends.

This post was contributed by a community member.

When Thecla Creech was exploring her senior living options, she was looking for a community that would provide a sense of belonging, opportunities to make friends, and a range of health care services--a place that would meet her needs now and in the future.

"I was retired and living alone in a condo," she says. "I knew I needed to live in a community. It was important to me to be prepared for the future, especially because I lived by myself."

Since moving to Windsor Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, N.C., Thecla has gained a vibrant lifestyle, new friends, and peace of mind.

"Life at Windsor Run is even better than I imagined!" she says.

A welcoming community

Living in Charlotte, N.C., at the time, Thecla visited several retirement communities in the greater Charlotte area. Windsor Run was one of them, and it stood head and shoulders above the rest.

She first visited the community for an informational lunch with a friend, then found herself returning again and again.

"This was the one place I kept coming back to," she says. "From the first visit, I liked the community. Although I wasn't ready to move yet, I knew I found a community that was worth exploring."

Learning more

So, Thecla joined the Priority List, affording her the opportunity to attend exclusive informational events on campus, meet other future residents, and receive first notice of new construction. With this knowledge, she chose to move into the Fullwood Ridge residence building when it opened.

"I was excited to move into a brand-new home, and there were many advantages to moving in at the same time as other people," she says. "We were all new together and getting to know the community at the same time."

Moving in just a week before Thanksgiving 2023, Thecla joined
a group of fellow residents for a holiday buffet.

"It was so nice to have people to spend the holiday with," she says. "Had I stayed in my condo, I would probably have been alone. Instead, I met new friends, and we've enjoyed Thanksgiving together ever since!"

Expanding social circle

Since settling into her residence, Thecla has maintained an active lifestyle and made many new
connections.

"One of the biggest things that surprised me is the way in which residents really pay attention to one another. I love walking the halls and have people call me by name," she says. "It makes such a difference to feel known, especially when you live on your own."

Thecla enjoys exploring new activities, including a variety of games like Rummikub and mah-jongg. She also regularly attends exercise classes at the fitness center and enjoys eating dinner each night at the community's on-site restaurants with neighbors.

"I'm not a cook, so I really enjoy eating at the restaurants," she says. "The food is very good, but the best part is that I now have someone to eat with. It's really a nice way to end each day."

The perfect balance

Thecla appreciates the balance Windsor Run provides between independence and peace of mind.

"You are free to pick and choose what you want to do and when you want to do it. I can be as busy as I want!" she says. "Living in a condo was very different."

And with an on-site continuing care neighborhood, offering assisted living services and long-term care, Thecla knows that she can receive additional support in the future,
if needed.

Vibrant living

Sales Director Ryan Barkley notes that many prospective residents are pleasantly surprised by everything Windsor Run has to offer.

"Many people visit with expectations that do not reflect our vibrant senior living experience," says Barkley. "Once they visit, talk with current residents, and spend time on campus, they witness the community's active lifestyle and welcoming atmosphere firsthand."

For Thecla, that realization continues to guide her experience.

"As we get older, we need a sense of community and belonging," she says. "Here at Windsor Run, I have that. My move has enriched my life in many positive ways!"
