• VIDEO: Helmet camera captures firefighter's perspective of huge NC home fire (snntv.com) — A Charlotte family of four is displaced after a two-story home was engulfed in flames early Friday, with helmet-camera video showing firefighters battling a wall of fire from the porch into the attic. Investigators blame a faulty battery-powered leaf blower, and while no one was hurt, the blaze caused about $110,000 in damage, with the Red Cross now helping the family.
   

• Dangerous heat strikes millions in the West, moves East (abcnews.com) — Charlotte is in the bullseye of a broader extreme heat pattern moving east, with heat index values expected to top 100 degrees by Tuesday alongside Raleigh, Richmond, and Washington, D.C. While the worst current alerts are in the West and Midwest, local residents are urged to limit time outdoors and conserve energy as the dangerous heat arrives.
