For $5–$10, you'll get blackout climbing with a live DJ, costume contests, challenges, and retro games, with rentals included and limited space, so advance registration is encouraged.

Superintendent details finances, investigation concerns in letter to Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board (wbtv.com) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Crystal Hill has sent board members a detailed letter outlining her concerns about unexplained consulting fees, financial irregularities, and how an investigation into her leadership has been handled. With key cabinet members resigning and a possible change in board chair looming, the district faces serious questions about transparency, morale, and financial oversight.
   

3. Potential CMS conflicts of interest outlined in 200 pages of documents (wccbcharlotte.com) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Crystal Hill has given the school board 200 pages of records alleging conflicts of interest and what she calls extortion tied to consulting contracts and teacher housing work. Her documents detail concerns involving board leadership, outside law and consulting firms, and a former CMS executive, just months after she was suspended, investigated, cleared, and reinstated. The board plans to discuss removing its chair next week.
   

4. Witness, family dispute CMPD's narrative about what happened before officer shot and killed man Friday afternoon (wccbcharlotte.com) — State investigators are reviewing a deadly CMPD shooting in north Charlotte after an officer chased and fatally shot a man Friday afternoon on LaSalle Street. Police say the man showed a gun, while family members and a witness insist he never threatened officers and was shot as he fell. The officer is on paid leave while the investigation continues.
   

5. Food & Film (charlotteonthecheap.com) — Families in Charlotte can catch a screening of "Shrek" under the lights at Truist Field on Friday, October 9, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. For $10, you can spread a blanket on the outfield, enjoy themed food, and support Charlotte Knights Charities' work in the local community.
