(wbt.com) ā Charlotte is breaking ground Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. on Firehouse 44, a new two-story, three-bay station serving the growing River District near Charlotte Douglas Airport. City leaders say it will be the Southeast's first mass-timber firehouse, designed to cut carbon emissions while supporting faster emergency response for nearby neighborhoods.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School board chair addresses past fraud conviction amid finance probe (wbtv.com) ā Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board chair Dee Rankin is confronting questions about a nearly 20-year-old fraud-related conviction as the district undergoes a state audit of its finances. He says the experience taught him to fully cooperate with investigations and stresses that CMS has checks and balances on large contracts, while other board members continue to back his leadership.

3. CMPD outlines new youth curfew after teen takeovers (wsoctv.com) ā Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are rolling out a new youth curfew pilot after a series of disruptive teen "takeovers," including incidents at Romare Bearden Park and University City. The curfew, with exceptions for work, school, and religious events, starts Nov. 1 after an October education period and will run through August while CMPD reviews its impact.

NC Lottery Powerball, Pick 3 Day results for Sept. 30, 2026 (shelbystar.com) ā If you bought lottery tickets in Charlotte, you can now check the Sept. 30 Powerball, Pick 3, Pick 4, Cash 5, Double Play, and Millionaire for Life numbers and see if you've won. Winners over $599 can claim prizes at the Charlotte Regional Office on West W.T. Harris Boulevard or by mail, with clear ID and paperwork requirements explained.
