Today's riddle: Why did the cookie go to the hospital? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Dr. Melissa Balknight to remain acting superintendent of Charlotte–Mecklenburg Schools (wccbcharlotte.com) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will keep Dr. Melissa Balknight as acting superintendent beyond her planned January retirement, providing continuity while the board searches for a permanent leader. With about 138,000 students and 18,000 employees, CMS plans community engagement sessions so Charlotte families can share what they want in the next superintendent.
2. Mecklenburg parks staff say they want stricter rules for e-bikes on greenways (charlotteobserver.com) — If you ride e-bikes on Charlotte-area greenways, new rules could be coming soon. Mecklenburg County parks staff told commissioners they want to tighten regulations beyond the new 20 mph limit, focusing on safety education while reserving police involvement for serious or reckless behavior on popular trails like Little Sugar Creek Greenway.
3. 'You're cowards': Family of Charlotte child killed in 'retaliation' shooting still wants answers after 6 arrests (wbtv.com) — Charlotte police have arrested six suspects, most of them teenagers, in the shooting that killed 4-year-old Caleb Flax as he slept in his Charlotte home, and are still searching for others. His grandfather describes how the September attack and 84 shots fired on Grassy Patch Lane have shaken their once tight-knit neighborhood and urges anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
4. Cotswold neighbors work to save rare Charlotte woodland from development (wbtv.com) — Neighbors in Charlotte's Cotswold area are racing to preserve a rare nine-acre woodland now on the market and already being eyed by developers. A new conservancy group is working with the city, county, and Trust for Public Land, while officials say the issue could reach council if zoning changes are requested, potentially shaping future green space access in your part of town.
5. M. David Properties reaches 100% leased at SilverPark North Industrial Park in Charlotte (mecktimes.com) — A major Charlotte industrial park has just reached full occupancy, with kitchen distributor Sims-Lohman leasing nearly 59,000 square feet at SilverPark North. Located near I-485, I-77 and Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the three-building park reflects a tightening industrial market as leasing volume and absorption continue to climb across the Charlotte area.
