Annah Campbell began working at River Gate Elementary as a substitute teacher in 2018. All of her children attended the school and she wanted to help. This gave her an opportunity to create a good rapport with all the staff and students at the school.

When school opened in the fall of 2020, this rapport provided her the opportunity to become a teacher assistant. In only her first year in the role, she has been recognized as the Southwest Learning Community Teacher Assistant of the Year,
"I knew all the staff and many of the students in the school already," said Campbell. "I know that I can help the whole team. I want to help everyone and make sure I do the best I can to help everybody!"

Campbell's duties at River Gate take her from supporting all the teachers and doing multi-tiered
systems of support interventions to pulling groups when needed. During the time when students and staff were working remotely, it helped that she was able to stay home and make sure her own children stayed on task.
"We are very proud that Ms. Campbell was selected as the Southwest Learning Community Teacher Assistant of the Year and is a finalist for the CMS Teacher Assistant of the Year," said River Gate Principal Nizy John. "Ms. Campbell consistently goes above and beyond expectations with her dedication to our school and our students. She tirelessly works behind the scenes in support of the initiatives of the school. She derives the most fulfillment and gratification from her work and interaction with the students. Ms. Campbell serves as our PTA president as well. She is most certainly deserving of this honor."
