Armed Suspect Turns Himself In After Standoff, Running In Huntersville

Huntersville police say the man who ran after an early morning shooting and standoff with officers Saturday is now in custody.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC -- The armed suspect wanted for shooting a woman in a domestic dispute early Saturday morning and then fleeing the scene during an hours-long standoff with police is now in custody, according to Huntersville Police.

Johnathan Edward Williams turned himself in to authorities Monday afternoon, two days after police asked for the public’s help in locating the convicted felon who was to be considered armed and dangerous.

The standoff with police began early Saturday after HPD received a call around 4:40 a.m. July 1 for a domestic dispute in the 100 block of Steuben Drive in Huntersville after a woman was shot, according to WBTV. After she was taken to the hospital for treatment, police believed Williams was still in the house and brought in a SWAT team. About seven hours later, however, they entered the home and found it empty, the station reported.
