Arrest Made In Fatal Shooting In Parking Lot Of Apartment Complex

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have made an arrest in a weekend shooting that left an 19-year-old dead in the parking lot of a Charlotte apartment complex near Southside Park.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said a 911 call reporting the assault with a deadly weapon in the 3500 block of Griffith Street came in around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14.

Officers responded to the complez, where they located a male gunshot victim in the parking lot. The victim, who was later identified as 19-year-old Antwon Risher, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Sunday, CMPD officers in the Metro Division spotted the suspect vehicle associated with the shooting and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop.

A short time later, however, officers were able to catch up with the suspect after he crashed into a parked car.

“Officers initially lost sight of the vehicle but were able to relocate it after it had caused a collision with another unoccupied vehicle,” CMPD said.

Suspect Donquavis Johnson, 18, was detained at the accident site and interviewed by homicide detectives. He was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
