Fire Investigators: South Charlotte House Fire Intentionally Set
Charlotte Fire Department Fire Investigators are investigating a house fire on Newberry Park Lane Saturday evening.

UPDATE: Charlotte Fire Department confirms the fire on Newberry Park Lane was an intentional act. They say the damage to the property was estimated at approximately $300,000, and content damage was estimated at approximately $100,000.
Charlotte Fire Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a house to go up in flames on Saturday evening on Newberry Park Lane. The 911 call came in at approximately 7:00pm reporting the fire. Multiple 911 calls into Charlotte Fire Department reported that a house on Newberry Park Lane was engulfed in flames. 911 callers stated the flames were getting closer to nearby houses.

Charlotte Fire Department Battalion Chief Phil Bosche says "first companies arrived on scene to find a house with heavy fire involved, potentially affecting surrounding structures." Additional surround fire companies with the Charlotte Fire Department were called to the scene and an 2nd alarm fire response began. Bosche told Patch approximately 40 firefighters responded to the fire to assist in bring the blaze under control.

Firefighters assisted one resident who had difficulty self-evacuating from the house. Charlotte Fire Department Battalion Chief Bosche tells Patch no firefighters or civilians were injured as a result of the fire.

Due to the damage sustained in one of the homes, an Accelerant Detection K-9 with the Union County Fire Marshal Office was brought into the scene.
(The Accelerant Detection K-9 is deployed during fire investigations to search for ignitable liquids. These K-9's who are run under The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), are trained to detect the strongest source of these products after a fire is extinguished. )
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the he Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force.
