🌱 Charlotte Career Fair + Local Woman On Fundraising Mission
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.
Good morning, people of Charlotte! It's me again, Alexis Goring, your host of the Charlotte Daily.
First, today's weather:
Humid; an afternoon t-storm. High: 84 Low: 60.
Here are the top four stories today in Charlotte:
- Jen Kipphut is a Charlotte woman on a mission to set a national fundraising record for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She is aiming to raise $891,806.01 in memory of her late husband Chris Kipphut, who died from a rare type of lymphoma in 2018. Kipphut said the extra cent at the end of the amount would give her the record for the most money ever raised by a 'Woman of the Year' candidate. (WCNC.com)
- A NASCAR spokesperson confirmed that they will most likely move some of their operations out of downtown Charlotte to Concord, North Carolina. The move will involve the NASCAR Productions group to a new 58,000 square foot technology center. The new facility will be built near the existing NASCAR Research and Development Center in Concord in the West Winds Business Park. The city of Concord is about 20 miles from downtown Charlotte and is where most NASCAR teams are located. (Forbes)
- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a shooting in north Charlotte. The incident happened Saturday evening in the 4700 block of Beech Crest Place. Earlier in the day, one person was transported from that same location to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. (WBTV)
- Mary Grier, 77, was reported missing on Saturday. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is requesting the public's help in finding this missing woman. She was last seen in the area of Mallard Creek Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard. Grier was reportedly on foot at that time, but is known to accept rides from strangers. She was wearing a red top and red skirt and was carrying a pocketbook when she was last seen. (WBTV)

Leon (birth name Todd Michael Bridges) was born in Atlanta in 1989 and began his musical journey by writing songs and learning the guitar so he could play simple chords to accompany his lyrics. His musical style resembles 1960s R&B and The Wall Street Journal has described him as a "throwback to '60s-soul a la Otis Redding and Sam Cooke". He honed his craft by playing at local open-mic nights until he was signed by Columbia Records in 2014. Leon's popularity grew even further when the album was nominated Best R&B Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. (7:30 p.m.)

From my notebook:
- Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte NC: Two of our own made Charlotte history come alive for the day. Battalion Chief Nantz and Firefighter Hood presented during "Voices from the Past" for the Mecklenburg Historical Association. (Facebook)
- CMPD Animal Care and Control: We are in need of fleece blankets (the light weight ones) for our kitties. You can also get fleece material from your favorite craft store and cut them into rectangles to fit their beds. If you are able/willing, drop off at 8315 Byrum Drive. (Facebook)
- CMPD Animal Care and Control: Thank you Humane Society of Charlotte for including us in your Pet Palooza event! It was very successful as 71 microchips were checked. Special thanks to our staff and volunteers! (Facebook)
- Charlotte Mecklenburg Library: Have you checked out Human Together Podcast? Human Together is a collaboration between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (CML) and the Community Building Initiative (CBI). (Facebook)
- Sustain Charlotte: We've enjoyed seeing so many folks out and about today! Thanks for stopping by our table to say "hi" at Sonic Movement Music and Mindfulness Festival uptown and at Riverfest on the banks of the Catawba River. (Facebook)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, Hickory Grove: Looking for a seamstress to go on a weight loss journey with me. The premise is a 30 pound pug who has to lose weight. The problem is no harness fits her the large is too big for her and the medium is too small. (Nextdoor)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, Coulwood East: Desperately ISO housing that isn't a scam! Over the past three months, I've lost a month and a half's wages trying to move, and still haven't found a place to go yet! (Nextdoor)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, E Independence Blvd: I am looking to buy some furniture from Goodwill but have no way to transport. Does anyone offer moving services? I don't need a full on service. Perhaps someone looking to make some extra cash. (Nextdoor)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, Merry Oaks: Servers/Bartenders needed for event tomorrow! Anyone have some free time tomorrow and want to make some money? We need event staff to work a few weddings tomorrow at Founders Hall. We'll pay you $17/hr, plus $50 bonus for last minute fill in. (Nextdoor)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, Catawba River Plantation: Anyone in or near Catawba River Plantation use Taylor Made for their garbage pickup service? Did they pickup your garbage when they were supposed to? If not do you know why? (Nextdoor)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, Northwood Estates: How do you fix roof fan with the noisy rusty post? I greesed it from the attic, but post is visibly rusty and makes squeaking noise anyway. Of coarse I stopped it from turning, but I don't think that's gonna work. (Nextdoor)
