Beware Of Scam Demanding Money For Missed Jury Duty: Sheriff

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office is warning against a phone scam that accuses people of missing jury duty, then demanding a fine.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” If someone calls you and says you’ve missed jury duty, then demands payment, it’s a scam, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office warned Wednesday.

β€œPlease be aware of the continuing Jury Duty Scam,” MCSO said in a statement. β€œDo not give personal information or money to anyone who calls to report that you have missed jury duty.”

Court officers will never ask for payment, or for a social security number after a person fails to appear for jury duty, MCSO said.
