Police Headquarters Abruptly Closed To Public After Threat

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department parking lot and building shut down access to the public "out of an abundance of caution."

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department abruptly shut off access to the building and parking lot, and urged the public to stay away after receiving a potential threat involving a wanted, violent criminal, a CMPD spokesperson said Thursday afternoon.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the CMPD parking lot and building is closed for public access until further notice. Please avoid this area,” CMPD Lieutenant Brad Koch told reporters midday in an email.

“Although we have not been able to verify the credibility of the threat, the law enforcement center was closed to the public out of an abundance of caution,” Koch said. “There has been no service disruptions and no employees were evacuated during the public closure.”
