Brewery Deploys Clever Strategy To Recover Stolen Beer Van
When this Charlotte brewery realized its beer van had been stolen, it offered the thieves a keg of beer to bring it back. And, it worked.
CHARLOTTE, NC — The Unknown Brewing Company became a crime victim Monday morning, when one of the uptown Charlotte brewery’s beer vans was stolen. This crime story, however, has a happy ending. The brewery got its van back and by lunch time, thanks to a clever incentive strategy to entice the van’s return: a free keg of beer.
And, they said, it only took 42 minutes.
“Well we guess people take live without boundaries serious,” The Unknown Brewing Company said in a Facebook post Monday. “3 fine individuals stole one of our vans early this AM. Please help us find it. Share with all of your friends. Who ever finds it, Brad will buy you a keg party ! If you stole it and bring it back,you will also get a keg party (smile for the camera).”

Of all vehicles to steal, this particular brewery’s vehicle is a curious choice. The black van emblazoned with chartreuse green lettering and its trademark stylized question mark is distinctive.

“Brewery Van stolen, whereabouts are Unknown…,” quipped one of the brewery’s fans on the Facebook notice.
“I would be ESP Bitter about this!” wrote another.
Shortly after posting the message on social media, they had located their vehicle after they were flooded with tips. “Charlotte you did awesome. New world record for finding a stolen van,” it said. “Over 15 people called in with tips and it was located in 42 minutes!!!”
