🌱Car Crashes Into North Charlotte Home + Chlorine Shortage For Pools

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.

Hello, hello. I'm back in your inbox this summer morning to walk you through all the most important things happening in Charlotte today. Let's do this.

First, today's weather:

Humid with a thunderstorm. High: 87 Low: 72.

Here are the top five stories in Charlotte today:

  1. Box Babe Gift Co., a female-owned and operated Charlotte-area business that started the week North Carolina went into lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, continues to thrive! This is a personalized gifting service with curated boxes sourced from women-owned businesses. Haley Sutton was going to launch Box Babe Gift Co. at a bridal expo in Charlotte when everything shut down due to the pandemic. Her original business plan was for a bridal gifting business but then wedding stopped for a while because of the pandemic. With $400 worth of inventory to fill bridal-themed boxes, Sutton made the decision to pivot: Instead of sending bridal gifts, she started sending gift boxes to encourage people who wanted to stay in touch with friends who lived miles away. (WCNC.com)
  2. According to Swarm and Sting, "The Charlotte Hornets made their first move of free agency Sunday when they came to terms on a contract with restricted free agent forward Cody Martin. Martin, who the Hornets selected with the 36th pick in the 2019 NBA draft, becomes the first second-round pick in franchise history to be resigned after their initial rookie contract." Martin, a native of North Carolina, may be a key member of the Hornets' rotation for years in the future. (Swarm and Sting)
  3. It's swimming season but there is a chlorine shortage that is needed for the water in pools! Just like last year, many pool supply stores put limits on items and shelves were empty. According to WCNC, "Now you can find chlorine tablets on shelves. But getting large quantities still has its limits. Pool building supplies are still facing shortages." (WCNC.com)
  4. A car crashed into a home along Esmeralda Drive in north Charlotte Saturday afternoon, damaging the living room on the first floor of the two-story structure and resulting in one person being hurt. According to WCNC, "the victim was taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries." Everyone inside the home survived. The family was working to move things out of their home because it has now been deemed unlivable. (WCNC.com)
  5. A special groundbreaking ceremony was held by Novant Health Thursday to expand its current breast health center. According to WSOC-TV, "the $15 million investment project will be called "Novant Health Agnes Binder Weisiger Breast Health Center." It will expand the current center to 13,500 square-feet and be a new, stand-alone and comprehensive center. The Novant Health Foundation is contributing $5 million to the new center to ensure patients in and around Charlotte have access to breast health services." (WSOC-TV)

  • My daughter and I were in Quail Hollow where we found this girl. She'd been barking for three hours. We earned her trust with a little Brie. I've already named her that! (Nextdoor)
  • There was a cat hit and killed this morning on Lockerbie. I have it at my house. He's dark gray with four white legs, belly and neck. I have a picture but don't know how to post. If he's yours, you can text me at 704-968-1306. (Nextdoor)
  • My wife found this girl in the middle of the road. No one in the direct area answered their door when she went knocking. No chip, no tags on collar. (Nextdoor)
  • My dog is missing! I let her in the back yard at night and she got out the fence. But she hardly ever leaves the yard! She doesn't have her collar on because she's mostly kept in the house. Her name is Panda and she's my walking buddy. (Nextdoor)
  • I saw a black dog with collar but no tag on Sadler Road. It was friendly but could not take him/her with me. Is anyone missing a dog? (Nextdoor)
  • Cat found on Deer Ridge Lane. Very sweet and docile. Feeding it and giving it water for now. Please send a message to my inbox if this is your cat or if you're interested in taking the cat. (Nextdoor)
