Caught! Police Arrest Suspected Killer Of 34-Year-Old Charlotte Woman

Jennifer Smith was murdered Wednesday in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte. The prime suspect in her slaying has been arrested, police say.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The suspected murderer of a 34-year-old Charlotte woman has been arrested in Greensboro, Charlotte police say.

Leroy Anthony Cooper III, also known as "Jay," was charged with the murder of Steele Creek area resident Jennifer Renee Smith, 34, on April 7. He was arrested without incident and was scheduled to be transported back to Charlotte Friday evening.

Police found Smith while responding to a welfare check April 5 in the 12300 block of Verdant Court. Medics pronounced her dead on the scene.

Leroy Anthony Cooper III has been named as the suspect in Jennifer Renee Smith's murder, CMPD said.
Smith was involved in a relationship with Cooper, who is now wanted on a first-degree murder warrant, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
