1. REV Vector, an electric fire engine, is going to be part of the Charlotte Fire Department. "The REV Vector Electric Fire Truck has the longest electric pumping duration in the industry, according to department officials and performs all ground duties. The Vector truck will use regenerative braking to help with battery charging. It will save about 19.66 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent from tailpipe emissions. ... The new firehouse and truck are part of the city’s Strategic Energy Action Plan with the goal of powering a fleet with 100% zero-carbon sources," WBTV reports. (WBTV)
2. "The short-lived Baker Mayfield era is over in Carolina. The Panthers waived the struggling quarterback on Monday after the 2018 No. 1 draft pick asked for his release. Mayfield would be subject to waivers and become a free agent if he goes unclaimed. The move does not come as a surprise, because Sam Darnold replaced Mayfield after his failed second stint as starting quarterback, and the Panthers like what they have in backup P.J. Walker. The move gives Mayfield a chance to potentially land with a team that needs quarterback help,"Spectrum News reports. (Spectrum News)
3. The annual WBTV/WBT “Hancock’s Bikes for Kids” event is back and they need your help! "Volunteers are working hard and want to make sure children in need throughout the Charlotte area can receive a new bike for Christmas. For years, you have been helping to make the holidays great for tens of thousands of kids and it’s time once again to continue to spread that holiday cheer. ... This year, organizers are hoping to collect more than 1,000 bikes for area nonprofits." WBTV reports. (WBTV)
4. "Lacrosse fans in the Charlotte area have waited more than four years for a professional team to return to the Queen City. Well, the wait is almost over. The Charlotte Bootleggers are about to launch their inaugural season in the PBLA, or Professional Box Lacrosse Association. If you’re not familiar with box lacrosse, it’s lacrosse played indoors on a hockey rink without the ice," Kiss951 reports. (kiss951.com)
