Charlotte Area Schools Back On Regular Schedule Tuesday

After three days out of class due to Hurricane Florence, students return to school Tuesday on a normal schedule.

CHARLOTTE, NC — After three days of canceled school due to Hurricane Florence, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ students will return to class on a normal schedule Tuesday. Wednesday remains a teacher workday and will not be designated a makeup day, the school district said.

All CMS schools have been closed since Thursday, Sept. 13, when several facilities were turned into Red Cross shelters for evacuees. Those shelters will relocated from school buildings by the end of Monday, CMS said.

“CMS staff, outside contractors and Duke Energy specialists are repairing damages and cleaning up on various campuses to ensure safety of students and staff. Families will be updated on a school-by-school basis as needed on the progress of work,” CMS said in a statement Monday.

While school officials have not yet determined when to schedule make-up days, it says possible dates include Dec. 19, Jan. 2, Jan. 22, Feb. 18, March 29, June 10 through June 12.

“CMS is exploring additional school make-up day options with state leaders in light of the enormous impact of Hurricane Florence across North Carolina,” CMS said. “The district will quickly communicate final make-up day decisions when updates are available.”
