- "The City of Charlotte and Envision Charlotte were awarded first place for a large city in the 2023 Childhood Obesity Prevention/Environmental Health and Sustainability Awards. The award is sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) and the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America (ABFHA). The goal is to support community programs that focus on encouraging healthier behaviors, environmental health and sustainability and curbing childhood obesity," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- "One newlywed couple is celebrating more than just their recent nuptials, thanks to Charlotte Fire Department! A tweet from Charlotte Fire released Sunday morning describes an elevator rescue that led to a wedding rescue. After receiving word that six people were trapped in a hotel elevator, Charlotte Fire responded. The firefighters safely pulled the people out of the elevator, which was stuck between the first and second floors of a hotel," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- "Sybil Leslie, the educator, author and “cultural ambassador of Jamaica” on February 9 became one of the latest to enter the exclusive rank of centenarian, with family and friends celebrating and Governor General Sir Patrick Allen “most heartily” helping to mark the milestone. A special birthday cocktail hour was held in Charlotte honouring the Bethel Town, Westmoreland, native who was born in 1923 to Eva and Adolphus Seaton. - "Jim Broyhill, a longtime North Carolina Republican congressman who served briefly in the U.S. Senate to fill a vacancy before losing a bid to keep the job, died early Saturday at age 95, his family said. Broyhill, a scion of the Broyhill Furniture business in the North Carolina foothills that brought jobs and prestige to the region, died at Arbor Acres retirement home in Winston-Salem, according to his son, Ed. He had suffered from congestive heart failure for years that worsened in recent months, his son said Saturday. The moderate Republican served more than 23 years in the House," WFAE reports. (WFAE)
- "It looks like Mecklenburg EMS may have just earned a furry friend for life! ... In a tweet released early Saturday afternoon, medic gave a shout out to two members of its crew that helped a dog that had been hit by a car.
