Charlotte Forecast: Cold, Wet Weather On The Way

The Charlotte-metro region will continue to feel freezing temperatures through the weekend, with cold and wet weather expected Monday.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The first week of the new year is off to a bracing start, with sub-freezing temperatures expected through the weekend, according to forecasters. Some relief is on the horizon, they say, but first there will be frozen rain.

“A cold arctic airmass has settled in across the region, yielding a cold wave pattern that will linger through this weekend,” the National Weather Service said in a hazardous weather outlook Jan. 4

Temperatures this weekend will top out in the low 30s, with Sunday likely to reach around 37 degrees, according to NWS. Overnight lows are expected to stay in the teens.

Conditions are set to change by the start of the work week on Monday, Jan. 8, NWS said. “Winter weather [is] possible,” it said Thursday. “Moisture will increase atop the region Sunday night, as a cold high slowly retreats to the east. As precipitation develops during the pre-dawn hours, it will likely start as a wintry mix of snow, sleet and/or freezing rain before transitioning to all rain by midday Monday. Snow and ice accumulations should be light, but some areas may have hazardous road conditions early Monday.”

Here is your weekend forecast, according to the NWS:
