Charlotte, Lake Norman-Area Police Ride Bicycles To D.C. To Honor Fallen Officers

Tuesday morning, 112 cyclists begin a 500-mile bike ride from Charlotte to Washington, D.C. to honor the memory of fallen officers.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Ten years after Charlotte police officers Sean Clark and Jeff Shelton were killed, their CMPD colleagues continue to honor their memory by riding bicycles to Washington, D.C. to bring awareness to law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Tuesday morning, as skies darkened and brought rain to the Charlotte region, 112 CMPD officers readied at police headquarters to make the four-day, 500-mile trip to Washington. Once there, the cyclists representing a dozen law enforcement agencies will participate in the national Candlelight Vigil held every May 13 at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

You can learn more about the cyclists, donate to their travel expenses and learn more about why they’re riding here.
