Charlotte Literary Festival: EpicFest Details, Author Schedule

Charlotte's literary festival, EpicFest, kicks off this weekend. Here are all the details on events and authors.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charlotte’s EpicFest 2017 literary book festival kicks off this weekend, bringing authors into 20 Charlotte-area schools before a day of activities and author appearances that also includes an event for teens at UNC Charlotte.

EpicFest will take place Saturday, Nov. 4 at ImaginOn: The Joe and Joan Martin Center at 300 East 7th Street in Charlotte, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A detailed schedule of the day’s events may be found here. The event will showcase 12 authors and will also include family friendly activities, such as yoga, face painting and Lego building.

This year’s event features a special performance by Pete the Cat series author Eric Litwin, followed by a book signing.

Saturday night, Queen City-area high school students will have an opportunity to attend EpicFest Teen Night at UNC Charlotte. This event, which runs from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. and requires a free ticket, will feature authors Robin Benway and Amber Smith.

More than 2,000 students at 20 area Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will have a sneak peak of the literary festival Friday, Nov. 3 with festival authors visiting to discuss reading and writing, according to school officials.

  • Fred Koehler -- Merry Oaks Elementary - 9:30 a.m., North Alexander Elementary - 1 p.m.
  • David Lubar -- Crown Point Elementary - 9:30 a.m., Highland Ren Elementary - 1 p.m.
  • Kelly Starling Lyons -- Sedgefield Elementary - 9:30 a.m., Steele Creek Elementary - 1 p.m.
  • Kathryn Otoshi -- Rama Road Elementary - 9:30 a.m., Long Creek Elementary - 1 p.m.
  • Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich -- Bain Elementary - 9:30 a.m., Hickory Grove Elementary - 1 p.m.
  • Janet Tashjian -- JM Alexander Middle -- 9:30 a.m., Barringer Elementary - 1p.m.
  • Amber Smith -- Harding High -- 9:30 a.m., NWSA 6-12 - 1 p.m.
