Charlotte Pedestrian Left Fighting For Life After Hit And Run

Charlotte police are searching for a dark car involved in a hit and run of a pedestrian Sunday evening.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” Charlotte police are searching for the driver of a dark passenger car that possibly has damaged windshield or headlights following a hit and run crash that left a pedestrian fighting for their life.

The crash occurred shortly before 9:20 p.m. Sunday in the 8100 block of University City Boulevard. According to a police account, a patrol officer found the man laying in the road with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, however, had not remained at the scene.

The male victim was transported by Medic to Atrium Health Center Main, reportedly with life threatening injuries, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. Monday morning, police said he remained in critical condition.

CMPD said a preliminary investigation indicated that the victim, who has not been identified, was crossing University City Boulevard t Shopping Center Drive, when he was struck in the left lane north of the intersection. There was no cross walk at the crash location, and investigators said it was unknown if the driver had a steady red or green light at the time of the incident.

"A witness to the crash described the suspect vehicle as a dark colored passenger car and that the suspect car fled the crash scene," CMPD said.

Police described the suspect vehicle as dark in color with possible damage to the windshield or headlights. The identity of the victim will be released pending next of kin notification, CMPD said.
