🌱 CLT Airport Getting New Terminal + ‘Jiggy’ Returning To Kannapolis

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.

Happy Thursday, Charlotte! Here's everything you need to know going on in Charlotte today.

Here are the top five stories today in Charlotte:

  1. North Carolina property taxes ranked 13th best in the nation in a recent Tax Foundation analysis. The Tax Foundation evaluated state and local taxes on real and personal property, net worth and asset transfers to devise a ranking for each state based on how those factors attract business investment. This is the third year in a row that North Carolina ranked 13th nationally among the best on the eastern seaboard. (The Center Square)
  2. Charlotte Plastic Surgery, the city's first plastic surgery practice, was voted Charlotte magazine's 2022 Best of the Best (BOB) Award winner for Best Plastic Surgery Group. This is the seventh straight year in which the practice was honored to receive recognition by the magazine's voters. Every year, Charlotte magazine dedicates its May issue to BOB Award winners in every area of business throughout Charlotte—from interior design to dining, to hairstyling. (PR Web)
  3. The North Carolina Local Government Commission recently approved over $1.5 billion in financing for local government projects across the state. The approved financing is around $900 million for infrastructure improvements for airports in Asheville and Charlotte. Included in that total was the approval of a request by the City of Charlotte to issue $425 million in bonds for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport for improvements, a new terminal and other construction projects.   4. Jiggy with the Piggy, an annual festival for barbecue lovers, will happen in Kannapolis very soon! The annual spectacular attracts the best barbecue cooks from across the country competing for the top prize, including first place in the People's Choice Pork Contest. A total of 50 teams from across the U.S. will cook with bragging rights on the line in one of the largest sanctioned events by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. (WCNC.com)
  5. A crash involving two vehicles and a school bus occurred yesterday morning on Sharonbrook Drive in south Charlotte. The bus was heading to South Mecklenburg High School when two vehicles hit it. District officials said that 15 students were on the bus at the time of the crash. The students had minor injuries. (WBTV)

  • Caitlyn Smith at The Visulite Theatre: Though she began her career as a performer, in recent years Smith has become one of Nashville's most celebrated songwriters, with her compositions recorded by artists from James Bay to Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton to John Legend and Meghan Trainor. Since she returned to the stage on her own, tastemakers immediately began taking notice: Rolling Stone has called Caitlyn's voice "soaring and eXpressive" and Elle magazine praised her "powerful, affecting songs," and she was named one the "top female vocalists" on Billboard's SXSW 2017 Music Discovery.   • Tim McGraw at PNC Music Pavilion: This is an outdoor venue with portions of the reserved seats under cover. The show will take place rain or shine. All dates, acts, and ticket prices subject to change without notice. All tickets are subject to applicable service fees via all points of sale. Children under 2 are free as long as they don't take up a seat. (7 p.m.)
  • Michael Yo at The Comedy Show: A two-time Emmy nominee, host of the Michael Yo Show and fresh off his critically acclaimed comedy special "Blasian," Michael Yo is a comedian/actor/host keeping busy in all of Hollywood's platforms. (7 p.m.)
  • Candlelight: A Tribute to Taylor Swift at The Barrel Room at Triple C Brewing: An intimate ambiance in a beautiful venue bathed in candlelight. A talented Charlotte string quartet performing popular pieces by Taylor Swift. The intimate atmosphere of the popular Barrel Room. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.   • Book Club on Zoom: Pastor Rob of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church teaches a book study on Zoom on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. Contact Pastor or the church office to find out the book we are using and to get the weekly Zoom invitation.
