CHARLOTTE, NC -- A pedestrian killed by a vehicle while he attempted to cross Sardis Road Tuesday evening has been identified by Charlotte police as Dwayne Clifford Selman.
According to CMPD detectives, Selman, 50, was attempting to cross Sardis Road outside the crosswalk at the intersection of Krefeld Drive in southeast Charlotte around 5:45 p.m. Dec. 5, when he was struck by a 2015 Dodge Journey driven by Edgar Arturo Cruz Duran.

According to accounts by CMPD detectives, Selman had crossed two northeast lanes of Sardis Road and was attempting to cross the two southwest lanes when he was hit by the Dodge. “It was determined the pedestrian was crossing against the signals and just outside of the crosswalk, CMPD said. “Alcohol use appears to be a contributing factor on the part of the pedestrian.”
While alcohol impairment was not believed to be a factor for the driver, detectives are investigating whether speed may have contributed to the accident, which would determine if charges would be filed, police say.
