Charlotte Police Make Arrest In 11-Year-Old Murder Cold Case

Jamell Lashon Alexander has been arrested and charged for his involvement in a 2005 armed robbery that left one man dead.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Almost twelve years after a man was hot and killed during an armed robbery, Charlotte cold-case detectives have solved the case and made an arrest.

Jamell Lashon Alexander, 40, has been charged with murder, two counts of armed robber and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for his involvement in the murder of Narayan Reddy Yalla in November 2005.

Yalla was shot during an armed robbery in the 100 block of Hilary Circle and later died in the hospital as a result of his injuries, CMPD said.

CMPD cold case detectives revived the case earlier this year in February, and secured the warrants for Alexander’s arrest after interviewing new witnesses. Alexander, who was in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Corrections, has been brought back to Mecklenburg County and is currently in custody at the Sheriff’s office.
