Charlotte Police Nab 53 In Overnight Safety Checkpoint
Charlotte police conducted a safety checkpoint early Friday morning on Sharon Amity Road. Are you surprised by what they found?

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charlotte police conducting an overnight safety checkpoint on North Sharon Amity Road brought 53 charges against area motorists, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Friday.
The checkpoint, which was staffed by 22 CMPD officers, was established in the 5200 block of Sharon Amity Road from 11 p.m. Sept 14 until 3 a.m. Friday morning. The officers were primarily looking for traffic violations including drunk drivers, the department said shortly before establishing the checkpoint.

CMPD issued 53 charges from the four-hour checkpoint for the following violations:
- Driving while under the influence: 3
- DWI, under 21: 2
- Driving while license revoked: 7
- Expired registration: 14
- No operator license: 18
- Open container: 4
- Misdemeanor drug charges: 4
- Underage drinking (18B violation): 1
