March 21 is French Bread Day. Yelp users say these bakeries are your best bets for French carb loading in Charlotte.

You don’t have to be a Francophile to understand that bread is a really big deal in France. It as such a big deal, in fact, bread riots by hungry French peasants led to the storming of the Bastille in 1789, giving rise to the French Revolution.
Today, as we celebrate French bread day, there’s no need for riot gear as you make a plan for tracking down the best crusty, chewy loaf and confections in the area. According to Yelp these are the best bread and French-inspired pastry bakeries in Charlotte.

1. Amelie’s French Bakery, 2424 N. Davidson St., Charlotte, (704) 376-1781 (additional locations throughout Charlotte area) – “A personal favorite is the mushrooms duexelles tartine, a fabulous garlicky mushroom pate (almost) spread over the most wonderful crispy baguette,” said Jennifer P. in her review on Yelp.

2. Renaissance Patisserie, 2809 South Blvd., Charlotte, (980) 819-8771 – “The almond croissants are amazing and the coconut macaroons are delightful,” said Yelp reviewer Ethan M. of Charlotte.
3. Café Monte, 6700 Fairview Rd., Charlotte, (704) 552-1116 – “Ive had their omelets, croissants, and espresso drinks and they are all top notch in my opinion,” said Blake B. of Charlotte.
4. Local Loaf, 224 E. 7th St, Chartlotte, (704) 503-9484 – “I love that they also bake their own bread for this stand, and would definitely try a lunch sandwich on a fresh slice of wheat bread when I visit again!” said Grace V.

Sunflour Baking Company, 2001 E. 7th St., Charlotte, (704) 900-5268 – “Always jam packed in the mornings, this privately owned jewel offers delightful breakfast sandwiches on fresh breads as well as mouth watering baked goods highlighted by the flakiest, butteriest, most delectable and addictive apple turnover I have ever eaten,” said Vince M.
6. Suarez Bakery, 4245 Park Rd., Charlotte, (704) 525-0145 – Yelp reviewer Vivian Y. from Brooklyn was taken with the bakeries Pretzel twist. “It's huge! About the size of my head. It was so delicious! Soft, fluffy, and glazed to perfection,” she said.
7. Great Harvest Bread, 901 S. Kings Dr., Charlotte, (704) 333-0431 – “I was so happy to discover this place! Delicious whole grain bread that will definitely be replacing my standard grocery store varieties,” said Jamie B.
8. Le Macaron French Pastries, 111 Metropolitan Ave., Ste 20, Charlotte, (980) 299-5838 – “I did ask if their chocolate croissants were made in house and they were (emoji with heart eyes),” said Yelp reviewer John H. “I have not met a chocolate croissant that I have not liked.”
9. Nova’s Bakery, 1515 S. Blvd., Charlotte, (704) 372-8999 – “I've been going to Nova's for coffee and bread for a while. Their coffee is beyond average good, but I have to give a shout out to their bread - just outstanding value!” said Xinyi C.
10. Crispy Crepe, 1436 South Blvd., Charlotte, (704) 332-440 – “They have waffles that are so rich and delicious,” said Gabrielle A. “I don't recommend that as your meal. (Too heavy) But share one at your table. A few bites and you will be wondering where they have been all your life!”
